The U.S. State Department issued a statement on Thursday, rejecting the Cuban government's harsh practices to prevent Cuban civil society from recognizing Human Rights Day.
On December 10th and 11th, Cuban authorities violently arrested dozens of independent Cuban scholars, journalists and representatives of civil society, including the Ladies in White and activists of the Patriotic Union of Cuba.
Moreover, Congress members Mario Diaz Balart, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Albio Sires and Joe Garcia, asked the State Department to deny artists such as "Arnaldo y su Talisman," who have participated in acts of repression against Cuban dissidents and activists, entry into the United States.
The video below shows the violence experienced by dissidents. Though names and titles are in Spanish, the imagery needs no translation.
